Abstract: [Objective] To study the protective effect of Hippophae rhamnoides L. juice against lead-induced lipid peroxidation andchange of catecholaminergic neurotransmitters in mice. [ Methods] Thiobarbituric acid colorimetric method was used in determining val-ue of malondialdehyde (MDA); alkaline hydroxylamine method and benzylamine method were used to determine activity of acetyl-cholinesterase(AChE) and Monoamine(MAO); fluorimetric method was used to determine the value of catecholamine neurotransmitters.[ Results] Kunming mice were given ip lead acetate at a dose of 10 rag/kg body weight for 20 days. The malondialdehyde(MDA)levels, and activities of AchE, Monomnine oxidase-A, B( MAO-A and -B)were significantly increased in the lead treated group, which were pro-tected by 20 %, 40 % HRL. The levels of norepinephrine (NE), serotonin ( 5- HT ), 5- hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5- HIAA) were decreasedsignificantly in the lead treated group which was antagonized by 80 % HRL except dopamine(DA). [ Conclusion] Different doses of thejuice of Sea buckthom were evaluated for the protection against the lead acetate induced oxidative stress and the change of neuro-bio-chemical parameters.
